IDS Menus to Appear on ABC Television's
“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”

morethancoffeHolbrook, NY—IDS Menus®, a leading supplier of restaurant display technologies, will play an important role in an upcoming episode of ABC Television's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition." The episode, which airs on Sunday, November 9th at 8pm/7pm central, will be the first in the show's history to feature a coffee shop remodel. Set in St. Louis, Missouri, the episode represents a variation on Extreme Makeover's time-tested formula: a home in need of repair, a deserving family, several opinionated designers, and seven days to complete the project. This time, however, the Extreme Makeover team will also rebuild More Than Coffee, a take-out coffee shop with a unique company mission. The shop's owner, Sam Malek, is a devout Christian with Cerebral Palsy who contributes portions of his profits to helping others who need a helping hand.

idsmenusdrive-thruSam was born in Egypt two months premature, and was literally disposed of in a trash can by his parents. He was discovered and brought to America in his early childhood, where he was raised by Shriners, an international fraternity based on fun, fellowship and the Masonic principles of brotherly love, relief and truth. During his life, Sam has undergone 29 operations. He was given less than a 10% chance of surviving his most recent procedure. For Sam, the fact that he survived proved that "God hadn't finished his work with him here on earth." Just over a year ago, Sam opened More Than Coffee, taking out a second mortgage on his home to do so. To run the business, Sam hired employees with a variety of disabilities. According to Sam, "our goal as always is to help those who are challenged and who are in need of our prayers and assistance." He adds, "Do a simple act of kindness everyday, pay it forward. change somebody's world".

The Extreme Makeover team decided to lend Sam a helping hand, completely demolishing his original shop and rebuilding it from the ground up. In addition to providing More Than Coffee with a major facelift, they also made it accessible to individuals in wheelchairs and those with special needs. When Extreme Makeover contacted IDS Menus, they had almost everything they needed to build the coffee shop, but were lacking exterior menu signage - a key element of any business offering drive-thru service.

IDS Menus provided More Than Coffee with a DesignView™ exterior Drive-Thru, customized to match the company's décor. In addition, IDS brought in a partner, Commercial Electronics™, to provide all necessary intercom equipment. Extreme Makeover's Kim Lewis offered IDS Menus the following words of praise after seeing the Drive-Thru layouts: "This is amazing! Thank you so much for all the hard work you have clearly put into this project....We are truly grateful for your support. Sam's shop will definitely be better because of companies like yours!"

Though IDS Menus was only requested to provide menu signage, company President Dean Edelman opted to participate in the rebuild as well. Dean spent five days working with the crew of Extreme Makeover Home Edition, driving a forklift, assembling equipment, and working closely with roughly 1,700 construction personnel whose companies had donated time to the project. According to Dean, "Not having much sleep during those 5 days didn't seem to matter. We were all completely focused on getting the job done. It was amazing to see so many tradesman volunteering their time, so many people helping in whatever way they could." In the words of Mr Malek, "Dean was a great asset to me during the project". Dean, a trained pilot, also offered to do flyovers and aerial photography for future episodes of Extreme Makeover Home Edition on the East Coast.

The show will air on Sunday, November 9, at 8pm/7pm central.

"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," which has won back-to-back Emmy Awards as Best Reality Program (non-competitive), is entering its 6th season on ABC. The program is produced by Endemol USA, a division of Endemol Holding. Anthony Dominici is the executive producer; and David Goldberg is the president of Endemol USA.
