Reduce Perceived Wait Times With Digital Menu Boards

A good example of reducing your customers' perceived wait time can be seen at the Zoofari Cafe at the Audubon Zoo located in New Orleans.

Here IDS Menus employed four digital menu boards to entertain and inform the humans while they wait in line. The two outer menu boards display hi-def videos and factoids about how much food each zoo resident consumes. While the two center digital displays provide the main menu for the humans.

The high-resolution videos are mesmerizing and really do make waiting in line an enjoyable experience. See more uses for Digital Menu Boards

Why Use Digital Menu Boards?

Digital Menu Boards - also known as Dynamic Menu Boards - have a variety of uses. Many food service operators only see them as an easy way to change pricing and update items. But there are many more ways to employ a digital menu board system. Here are just a few:

Reduce Perceived Wait Times – During busy hours while your patrons are waiting in line a digital menu board system can provide information and entertainment with live TV feeds or canned video. This helps cut the perceived wait time down significantly. view example

Changing Behaviors – We have been deploying digital menu board systems throughout Middle Schools and High Schools to help fight childhood obesity.

Educating Customers – Digital menu boards are the perfect tool for educating your guests on how to order and what they should expect while in your establishment.

Training Your Staff – Before and after hours digital menu boards can be used to broadcast a message or live video from your headquarters. This is a great way to train your staff remotely on any new products or procedures.

Test Marketing – A digital menu board system is the perfect tool for testing different price points, combos, images, colors, and messages.

Improving Sales – Digital menu boards are the perfect way to draw attention to daily and seasonal specials.

Differentiation – Digital menu boards are still novel enough to provide your establishment with a new and cutting edge look.

Day Parting – There is no better way to display your menu items and promotions at the appropriate times than by using an automated digital menu board system.

Advertising – Digital menu boards can display ads from local business and national brands. They can also track the frequency and generate the billings.

Hostess – While your patrons are waiting for their table you can preview your specials, deserts, and appetizers by using a digital menu board. And then let the same display announce which party is seating next.

Sports Bar Ads – A digital menu board in a sports bar can show the game, display your promotions, and let local advertisers sponsor your halftime specials.

Inventory Management – A digital menu board system can be programmed to watch what items are not selling and begin promoting them - helping reduce spoilage.

Branding – Digital menu boards are perfect for telling your story and strengthening the brand experience.

Interact with your Patrons – There is no rule that says digital menu boards have to be up on the wall and out of reach. Digital menus can be touch screens in kiosks that allow your patrons to browse your menu items by calorie content and learn more about the ingredients.

I hope I sparked some ideas for your food service establishment. In future posts I will write about some real world examples.
